How can I cash a supplemental check from my insurance company made out to the body shop?

The car was released and the insurance company sent me a supplement check made to the body shop, but I want to get the work done else where. Can I cash the check and take it to another shop? I am no longer with the issuing insurance company.|||No, that's the whole point of making it payable to the body shop. You'll have to send it in to the adjuster, and ask them to make it payable to the NEW body shop where you want to have the work done.

It doesn't matter that you've since switched insurance companies. The claim is still valid.

If you have a loan on your policy, and you don't actually want to have the work done, you can ask the check to get made payable to the lender - but there's no way you'll actually get your OWN hands on this money.|||Your question is confusing. A supplement check is issued when a shop finds more damages after it is torn down and being repaired. Most estimates are written on what a shop can see and a supplement is done if more damages found after work is started. Since the 1st shop did the repairs and has released your car, means;;;;;;;;;that they may have already did the addtl work for the supplement and are owed this money.

But;;;;;;;;if they did not do the addtl work, then call up the insurance company, tell them you will send back the original check for the supplement and they will then reissue the check to the 2nd shop. If there is a loan on this car, it has to be payable to a shop. But if no loan, can have check reissued in your name and either have the addtl repairs done and you pay for it.

But I suspect the entire repairs were done and owed to the 1st shop.

good luck|||You can't.

if you want to use a different shop, you call up the insurance company and ask them to redo the inspection and issue a new check.|||No, you can't. You'll have to contact the insurer and ask about returning the check and having it reissued. You're the one who changed your mind.|||No, if the check is made payable to a specific body shop you cannot cash it yourself. You have to do the work there.
