Can you cash a check at a different bank than is on the check?

I just recieved a $3000 student loan check for school and I need to cash it to get items for school . The bank that is on the check isn't anywhere near me. I have a checking account with Bank of America. Will they cash my check since I have an account with them? I don't wanna deposit the check I want to cash it.|||IF it is an official bank check and/or a corporate check... you should be able to cash it at your bank, otherwise the hold on it is 24-72 hours... You can do without the access to it for 3 days... seriously....|||You may cash the check at Bank of America if you have somewhere around $3000 in your account to cover the check if it doesn't clear. If not you would need to cash the check at the bank it was drawn on. It doesn't take long for the check to clear today. Just ask.|||It is possible they will cash it. Doubtful though. Typically these types of check require a 5 day holding period (to make sure the check clears), then you will have access to your money.|||your bank will cash it, they may put a hold on it until it clears, or they may not. My bank doesn't put holds on checks but some do.|||yes go to your bank and deposit it there should be no problems|||they will want you to deposit it and hold the money till the check clears which should only take a few days!!!|||yes, the bank you have an account in.|||I am answering this question in indian context. I assume it is same in US.

If the cheque is Account Payee (or Payees Account Only) then you must have to deposit it in your account in Bank of America first. Then once the money is credited in your account, you will be able to withdraw by ATM or by Self Check.

If the cheque is not account Payee i.e. it is bearer cheque, then you must have to find out the branch of the Bank which is mentioned in the cheque.

Whether the cheque is Account Payee or bearer can be found on the cheque itself.

I assume that you have a Account Payee Cheque. If you have the doubt, go to any bank and they will assist you.|||You should be able to cash the check with your own bank, however due to the dollar amount of the check they may place a temporary hold on the check while they wait to receive the funds from Bank of America. This might typically be around 3-5 business days. However, if you have that amount available in your account before you deposit it they would let you take it out in cash. Holds are placed at the discretion of the bankers in the office, so if they tell you they are placing a hold, if you complain enough they might not.|||If you have an account, they should just cash the check the check for you. Unless they have a hold on the check and you have to wait a period of time until you can get the cash.
